I have a terminal disease. That’s what I was thinking when I was cooking dinner.
But it’s really good news! You see I’m terminally love-sick! I love my wife, so much! & it’s from love of Jesus that I found her. & by loving her, I am loving Him…& learning to see His beauty in everyone.
I really want to bless you. What better can I do, but share my heart, which can reveal the heart of God?
The name: My name is not legally changed yet, but it better describes me in Swahili. It means, “Weeps with love as my email address.” Greg LK Mapenzi, is shorter than Greg W. Cunningham anyway. I got a new address for newsletters, so I can read and respond to them from my phone here and in Africa, without being deluged by news/info subscriptions and sales.
Why I write so soon after my last letter: It’s because I want to share the joy of traveling with a now restored back-slider to the MorningStar Ministry Holy Spirit conference in Feb. & other joys like:
- Sharing photos of the repair/improvement of the front of my formerly ugly pole-house and how it happened. The last photo shows the progress as of 3/4/10. The MS photos are from the MorningStar conference in S. Carolina 2/17-20.
- A short letter from my new Bukavu, DRCongo ministry partner:
Dear brother Greg,
So many days! Our ministry is going on well. At our traditional church
conference last month. I was invited to talk about the House to House
Ministry and 4 pastors from the furthest corners of the province
embraced the vision. They told me that they were going to start
churches in their localities though they hadn’t enough training yet. I
told them to learn more from the book of Acts and offered each of them
a copy of the Swahili disciple-making book. I may visit their work in
July/August during our summer vacation.
My Swahili syllabus on the church in a house is almost ready. I’ll
send you a scanned copy of it soon. Many pastors are eager to get
copies, too.
Baby Greg is well. I should have sent a scanned photo of his but my
photographer inconvenienced me. I’ll find someone else to make photos.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Love from,
Haggai K.
3. A new simple church we started at my one old local friend’s house. We plan to meet weekly with our un-back-slider, who wants to come early to my house for fellowship before he works outside, while I usually work outside or drive out on business. Had a great meeting with just Larry Tuesday night, because the new guy, Dave had a formerly sort’ve estranged wife who wanted his help with their son as she is so busy this week. Larry’s wife fed us and took 3 of my shirts and pajama pants to sew for me. Dave is joining us on Monday.
4. The last step to my wife’s immigrant Visa was recently finished! I expect her to be able to come during our beautiful Indiana summer and hopefully we can travel to see our beautiful West and our many simple church friends in many states.
5. Other personal blessings, like my amazing recovery from the dislocated shoulder, online History studies, & work blessings.
About Dave & our conference trip:
He confessed he lived by pan-handling (deceitful begging) but he was telling the truth when I gave him a gallon of gas for his car in the Goodwill store parking lot.. When we met, he said, “I think this is a divine appointment.” He was living like a pagan, but is now living right, growing, and determined to not go back to his sinful life which kept him from supporting his wife and son. God blessed me enough, that I could pay him a low wage and he paid his share of our travel expenses to a great conference 700+ miles from us, which really fired him up to no longer do what he did before to get money which was mostly spent on sin. It was and is a joy to me, to travel with him and to work with him and to see him growing in the Lord.
We expected and got great blessings at the conference! I’m surprised how many new things I learned and we both were blessed, because we had a prophetic ministry team give us both accurate prophetic words! They confirmed what I said, that this time of waiting for me is preparation time that pleases God, and that He is pleased my with my library of knowledge (in my head) responsibility and disciplined work.
After the conference, I was getting short on money, but had several service calls recently and one divine sales appointment that may turn into over $3,000 of profit which will allow me to pay my bills and travel to Africa in March or early April as I planned. I talked so much on my new unlimited phone while driving that when the lady gave me the last number in her address, my phone died, but I had a great time sharing with her and her husband and giving them a price.
Two requests:
1. If you know anyone in the USA who needs a furnace, air-conditioner, or heat-pump installed I can either drive or fly with my tools to do it. I’ve flown to install twice before. They can get the 30% energy tax credit for all of those starting at around $2,500 for a 95% efficient gas furnace installed. Some states, like Indiana, also have 30% rebates and we also have a $250 utility rebate here. I have a supplier who will ship anywhere in the USA the most reliable brand that I’ve used for 22+ years. I need a job like this to pay for my next trip to Africa. For $130/unit they can get a 10 yr labor warrantee that will pay local contractors for service replacing Goodman parts. My business and toll-free numbers are at the bottom. I suggest 574 295 9696.
2. My Tanzania partner who established 3 house churches and together, we healed a lady with a big tumor (Jesus said, “Heal the sick”) and cast demons out of a new baptizee; He wants to start using the video projector and speakers with the Jesus video (all supplied by donations) to do mini crusades and lead many to Christ, with miracles, etc, like he did before. But we need donations! His usual income from computer commissions has been hindered, because two never arrived and two more were stolen in route, so a box minus computers arrived. He has no money to rent a car for the speakers and really no money for his family, either. Even $10 would make a big difference. Click here for credit card donations or see the bottom for mailing or deposits in my Chase bank account. You can specify by note or email, whether it is for the crusade or for his family.
Other good news:
- For one my wife loves me and misses me and our love is overcoming the 19 out of 29 months of marriage that we have been separated. Pray for the work I need to travel as I planned this month or early April.
- 2nd, the lack of work has given me more time to take a university internet course on African History which has been paid by a generous relative and a grant from the government. This course takes a lot of time, but I really enjoy history and expect it to help me do great things in the kingdom of God in Africa. I’ve averaged 97.5% on my first 7 of 15 lessons with my lowest 90% on the first one, because I didn’t know they wanted more dates in my essay answers.
- Saturday, I had enough money and time to ship 1 computer which supports our ministry in Tanzania (selling for profit). It also has a phone that will work with the internet and Christian movies that will play on a DVD player for my partner’s friends and family. Pray that it doesn’t get stolen! Many of my USA customers are Christians and happy when they find out what I do in Africa!
- Through an old Christian friend, I learned about a new mobile phone service that only costs $45/mo for unlimited USA calls, SMS messages, and internet access! It also works better than my previous service and receives SMS from Africa phones. It has a slide-out keyboard for typing messages & using the internet.
- That phone service and the 22 yr old Volvo, I bought are reducing my business and ministry expenses and it will be a great car for my wife when she is finally here with me, because in cold weather it has a great heating system and heated seats! It also has four wheel automatic braking that makes it slide straight as an arrow on winter ice, power seats, locks, and window defrosters front and back.
- The last step to my wife’s immigrant Visa was recently finished, so I think she will be with me to enjoy this beautiful country this summer during my busy summer business season and she will qualify for grants for a good USA education, too! I will help her enroll in online education, so we can continue to travel together for ministry and life in other countries.
- From exercise and good diet, my shoulder that was dislocated in the rolled bus in Tanzania last April 24 lifts nearly as much weight as my strong right shoulder, helps me do 2 sets of 12 chin-ups (I weight 188 lbs.) & other exercises that many men can’t do. I still run and am working on memorizing Song of Solomon verse 6 in Swahili while I run, even in 9 degree weather.
Pray for:
- God’s provision for our ministry leaders.
- God to continue to lead me in March and to provide the right connections to go deeper into the river of His Spirit and to come out a soaked sponge.
- For the business I need for my next trip to Africa, in the next 5 weeks.
- Favor with the online Christian school, so I can take the courses that will be the most fruitful in my ministry and work.
- Favor to get the right teaching job in Rwanda when I arrive, so my wife & I can afford to stay together in Africa where we can bless others by teaching and example (I hope).
