…for the good of those that love God and are called according to His purpose.” Rom 8:28.
The good news links are above my signature info at the bottom.
Rom 8:28 is nearly always in my mind. Even when I feel depressed, because I’ve had no reason to leave my nearly solitary home (my secretary has her own life, not around me, though she lives here) I still know that creation is working for my good and the good of God’s kingdom in and through my life.
Because our most prolific leader is busy training leaders and practicing his teaching of personal disciple-making from scratch, in Burundi, and our new partner in DRCongo just had a baby they named Greg, and the others don’t have or (my wife) don’t know how to use internet in their phones and general communication challenges, like no money or lack of English….because of that, I don’t hear even 2% of the great testimonies of what God is doing in our 800 plus house churches.
But I’ve heard enough to know we have scores of converts, miracles & much more every month, so now this new-letter is the saga of my life & the ups & downs of embracing the cross, dying, and bringing forth much fruit.
Well, writing is good for me, & I think a real blessing to some or many of you, so here are some joys:
- My wife loves me, longs for me, respects me, and worries when I don’t call her daily, despite the fact that neither one of us knew that we would be separate 64% of our marriage, so far. It will be 2/3rds by the time I get back to her around March.
- Business is slow, but God blessed me with a luxurious Volvo for $1,500 that I actually had in the bank and those leather heated seats will be nice when my wife finally gets here to this cold climate. Pray for my business. I’ve only earned $300 in new gross profit in almost 4 weeks!
- I’m really enjoying an online college course in African History that $305 was paid by a Pell Grant and the rest by a generous family member.
- I just found and am enrolling in the most, internet advanced, partially online Christian college that I think there is. It has 17 hrs of identically named history courses that will transfer to an online school that has a Bachelor’s in History. The tuition is substantially lower than secular online schools and other Christian colleges that have very few degrees online. They tell me my Pell Grant will pay the entire tuition for 24 hrs of classes, this year! I decided I should study what I love, history, and find world and USA history classes taught from a Christian perspective. Part of my motivation was…
- …the MorningStar Ministries web-stream (click here to subscribe [ $8 or $15/mo}) then click AOD or VOD (Audio or Video On Demand) to find the session that shared many great stories of the faith of our (USA) founding fathers, like 44 of the signers of the constitution, were seminary or bible school graduates and 23 of the 54 signers of the Declaration of Independence were also such graduates. Good luck finding that one, but there is more from the same lady on Jan 17.
- I have a family who has agreed to sign the needed affidavit of support for my wife to get her visa, because my net business income is too low, even though the business pays all my communication and transportation, etc expenses. My wife is well enough to get the needed police clearances for the last visa application so she can come to the USA.
I really don’t like being away from people who love to be with me and be taught by me, in fact, here most are too busy to even build a relationship. Sometime I feel like saying, “This is no way to live!” Especially, when there is no good reason to leave my house in the dark winter days.
But there are two babies in Africa named after me, and I’m on track to get a good education in the subject I love and, so far, God has provided amazingly for important things, when many have no work at all. Plus my dislocated, in April, shoulder is getting strong & I’m back up to two sets of 9 pull ups and other things most men can’t do (like 100 1-legged squats) though my shoulder still hurts with a good work out. I even went running when it was only 9 deg (-13 Celsius) so I’m still staying young at almost 52. But I don’t heal as fast in cloudy weather.
I’m in communication with an African University about joining their faculty on my return, so pray for favor & God’s will in that.
It’s hard to be away from my wife, but I am encouraged by the few who tell me that they enjoy my emails. One fella that isn’t even going to church (I don’t blame him, in this country) said he has a special folder for my emails. I was blessed through business to spend several hours with him trying to figure out if I’m the first one to notice a technical glitch in a recently introduced controlling circuit board (furnace computer). He answered when I just called them, because they are down to two at the sales counter because business is so slow. He’ll read this one right away.
There are several guys at my main furnace and A/C supplier that really pay attention to my amazing life. Well, some of us think it’s amazing! Actually just the fact that I can talk to someone in person, while I talk on the phone, & type on my computer or drive after 3 concussions and cerebral malaria is a bit amazing. I’m glad for that old lady that prophesied to me, “You cannot be stopped! You cannot be stopped! You cannot be stopped!” Well, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phil 4:13
Oh, I forgot. With this extra time I got some bonus bibles (5 versions) I forgot I had, installed in my two working Garmin GPS PDAs, so now I have 6 bibles and “Strong’s Exhaustive Dictionary” (Greek and Hebrew) in my pocket, including my favorite NASVU, Darby’s, and Young’s translations. That might come in handy when I’m teaching the foundations of productive developed nations in an African University. & I cleaned my two 4’ X 8’ tables, so I can find things.
But best of all are relationships. The great growth with my wife, the good dinners I’ve had with two of my daughters & parents, the great conversations I’ve had with my (amazingly like me) youngest (10 yrs.) daughter. She loves to read and exercises and loves to run really fast! I sat and read for hours at her age, but loved to play tackle football across the road. I’m thankful for the good communication with her, although dishonest people, with money for attorneys, who get paid with the Social Security Mercy and her brother get since her mother died, have kept her from me, at least we have great conversations by phone. She is getting my mail, so she read the first volume of “The Hobbit” in a flash and has our first DVD movies that play on a DVD player to see “The Lord of the Rings”
The photos of Mercy are my newest photos (I found in an old $100 video camera I took to Africa) when she & I were camping together when she was 5 in 05.
God is GOOD!
Links below, that show the continuing greatness of the USA & Israel in service to Haiti. They brought tears to my eyes and prayers from my lips today. The USA is like most of us. Big failures, great qualities, need for God’s mercy and spiritual awakening.
