Our family in Africa is growing now in 6 countries, instead of 4! Although, I’ve being too busy to produce teaching, as I planned. God is using me to network many believers from different countries and continents:

1. We have two new house churches in Uganda where we have never been! Our DRCongo leader, Haggai, was connected by my emails to Samson who I knew from our trips to the southern tip of Uganda when Haggai had personal plans to travel to the Uganda capital. Samson emailed last week, after Haggai taught groups, “Wonders and miracles were experienced by the sick who got healed, many people rejoiced after seeing the signs of being healed gave testimonies. It was really the most Marvelous Seminar I have ever seen. We planted two House to house Churches here in Kiboga District of which am the Leader, thanks be to God. His full letter is below this list.

2. My good wife will fast and pray 2 days next week with 1-3 friends including one whose name is My Friend (I love that) for my partner in Burundi (whom we visited together early July) because of a personal trial that he would only share with a good friend, like me, who will understand. God has also blessed me with enough work in a normally slow season that I could afford to loan him 25% more money than he requested. I’m amazed that I would understand so well his trouble & how God has connected us together & it was through his interpretation that I first was interested in my wife, who is fasting and praying for for two days!

3. Through my personal relationship with the founder of Heaven’s Family (Click here) one of my new partners in Kenya was helped with $375 for hospital expenses for his wife (at the last minute) who is still being treated for a near fatal tubal pregnancy. Thank God for good ministries like Heaven’s Family and David Kirkwood’s whole team of servants of Jesus! I just don’t have the funds to help medical needs, but when requested I thought to email my friends at Heaven’s Family.

4. David Saku (Tanzania partner) has translated my favorite simple church book, “Church in the House”, because I got permission from the author to edit (shorten) it for African readers and his support for the translation to Swahili. David found a printer who can print 1,000 copies for 50-70 cents per copy with a nice cover & photos! We have permission to use it & sell it to support our ministry, which is needed everywhere we work. Even the poor can afford to buy it for under $2! And most of the people in all 6 countries can read Swahili. Even my well established friend in Nairobi said he couldn’t match that price and he would buy 500 copies and pay for shipping by bus to resell in Kenya.

5. I just emailed teaching materials to a new (5th or 6th) simple church planter in Kenya by email. I only know Henry by phone through his brother that I met the day we left Kenya! I’m thankful that I can call Kenyans for 9.4 cents/min & send an SMS to their phones for 3.1 cents! My average call to Africa is under 10 cents/minute.

6. Making disciples through simple churches is growing in:

a. Burundi (Over 2,000 & 8th generation churches)

b. Tanzania (David plans to travel, doing crusades, with the Jesus Video, & teaching from and selling “Church in the House.”)

c. DRCongo (Growing in at least 3 city-regions, but only one English speaker who sends me emails.)

d. Rwanda (Networks of multiple churches in two regions)

e. Kenya (5 or 6 new church planters with few reports, because they have limited internet, one doesn’t speak English, and one is busy with multiple ministries.)

f. Uganda (Samson has just started two, with the help of our English speaking/teaching leader from DRCongo.)

I am well, making money for my honey (caught up on advertising bills) ran 3 miles in under 30 minutes (at 52) have a likable helpful roomer paying $200/mo in my house, finishing my Africa History class on-line, paid for parts to make my 88 Volvo run like new, & reading great books that have come through divine connections with other believers. Not to mention watching the great movies, “Amistad” and “Amazing Grace” while I eat my own good cooking alone.

Best of all, for me, I feel unexplainably happy, joyful and singing more than usual in worship alone with my Bridegroom, Jesus. That and the letter from Uganda, motivated me to write, even though my business has kept me too busy to clean off my desk and table.

The full Uganda letter is below:

Hello Greg,

Praise be to the good Lord for making possible to communicate to you, how are you doing over there? I have been very busy in the fields, with no access to the internet, when am in the Forest there are some places where there is no coverage of the Network of the Mobile phone, Pastor Haggai told me that you called me and my phone was not passing through, it was the problem of the net work for where i had reached.

Most Importantly, when Haggai and his Nephew came to Kiboga to teach, it was Pastor Haggai’s first speaking on Friday at the Market Place.

Topic: Jesus can raise your life (Luke11:11-17)

Saturday in the Field.

Topic: Being a faithful Worker (matthew20:1-7)

Sunday at the Church

Topic: Jesus is our Hope(John3:14) (Numbers21:4-9)

‘Topic: Free invitation to Salvation (matthew11:28)

Topic: Getting access to Gods glory (Acts10:1-3)(John11:40)You will see Gods glory when you believed.

“Wonders and miracles were experienced by the sick who got healed, many people rejoiced after seeing the signs of being healed gave testimonies. It was really the most Marvelous Seminar I have ever seen. We planted two House to house Churches here in Kiboga District of which am the Leader, thanks be to God. However, my Dear Brethen, am asking you to plan to come here and put it in your Program so that you can see how we are doing. Please, keep on trying to call me so that we can talk.

May the Almighty God Bless the work of your Ministry.

Send my warm greetings to your Daughters and your Parents plus other Brethren

Sorry, I just realized that all my Kenya photos are in the camera phone, I left with Provi.

Our appetites are whetted for more Kingdom work in Kenya! Ours and our several new and one old friend! We have so many invitations for longer visits to teach in Kisii Land, and in Nairobi. Although we didn’t get my wife’s visa interview, as we hoped, it was from the Lord that we came! This is my first trip where our housing and food was provided at no expense to us! The idea of making disciples through simple church was already functioning with two of our contacts in Nairobi, and is now functioning through our two main contacts in Kisii Land.

The Lord really blessed us with our contact through Heaven’s Family, who distribute the great bible-school-in-a-book, “The Disciple Making Minister” in multiple languages for free! They gave us 5 in English, and 5 in Swahili for our Kisii leaders to take back, and 15 in Swahili for my wife to take back to our city in Rwanda, which is near our DRCongo leaders and Swahili speaking Rwanda leaders. We gave one to our old friend from DRCongo who has begun several simple churches in Nairobi. We are in our Heaven’s Family contact, Peter’s home, now as he picked us up so my wife could meet him & hear about his ministry in one of her native languages. He invited us to come teach for several days with all our expenses paid, & perhaps even part of our air-fare from Rwanda in the future. I am looking forward to teaching a seminar in my specialty, which people everywhere love, without having to pay for renting a room or feeding the attendees! The Christian ministries in Nairobi are much more mature and generous to support traveling missionaries.

About our Heaven’s Family contact, Peter. I was so happy to discover that we have so much agreement in how to do the Lord’s work and how he has accomplished so much in many areas. They are converting a group of traditional churches that he planted to simple churches and using the facilities for things like orphanages, schools for orphans, and a secondary school supported by its own business and also supporting some of the orphanage expenses. He is not a poor man in Africa, and gives $400/mo to support the orphanage, and has sold his own car, to invest in converting the secondary school to a self-supporting school to benefit many orphans. They have even given out $2,000 in micro-loans so that the relatives of most of the orphans can support the parentless children through their own new small businesses.

The Kisii brother who paid his own way to take us to Kisii and fed and housed us, was engrossed in my book on The Song of Solomon, which I have never published, but can print. My other national leaders have sometimes said, “You don’t know what God has given you!” I could use some donations totaling about $350 to publish it in English, which I could sell when I travel to conferences and when I teach seminars on the subject. Then I can get it printed in Swahili and French for many Africans. Peter knows a good printer who can also print “The Church in The House” by Robert Fitts when our Tanzanian partner finishes the translation to Swahili.

Some highlights:

1. The people loved our discussion style teaching. I even got them hooked on the Song of Solomon (as I teach it) by answering their questions about marriage using the Song.. as an example of the freedom and grace & response that we should have toward one-another.

2. The women loved discussion teaching with my wife, mostly about marriage.

3. Kenya has more English speakers, but really it was much like the other places I’ve been with few who understand it well and most of the conversation was in a local tribal language, although nearly all of them speak Swahili well, so my wife could talk to them in just one language. I shared with an interpreter, except talking with my interpreters.

4. It was a good step to another culture for my wife, because Kisii people speak a language that has some of the same words as the native Rwanda language, especially her first name, Dusabe which means prayer, is the beginning in Kisii, “Let’s pray.” Also it fulfills the dream that answered my fleece about our marriage, when she emailed me and told me that she had a dream of us standing in ministry together in Nairobi Kenya. It came to pass. Our Burundi and Kenya trips were her first time to teach in those countries and only her 2nd time to those countries. She also got a taste of a country where the signs are usually and the conversations are often in English.

Kenya politics & the Kingdom. I try to go easy on politics, but, as disciples of Christ, and citizens in voting countries, we should exercise our right to tell the truth and influence others to vote wisely. You Americans should know that the bible believing Kenyan Christians do not like the interference of the Obama appointees (the ambassador) which are supporting the new constitution which makes abortion much easier to get, has some favor for homo-sexuals, I think, and has at least 13 references to the rights of Muslims, with not one mention of Christians and it makes helping someone to convert to a new religion punishable by law! The Christians are rallying to say, “NO!” in the constitutional referendum. They say the US ambassador is buying votes in favor of it.

Provi was out shopping for shoes that she can sell for a profit in Rwanda. I am looking forward to my own US cooking and the cooking that I enjoyed with my friends at the “Searching Together” conference which I intend to be at Friday-Sunday. Believe it or not, the Kenya TV is showing “Dr. Phil” while I type alone. Nairobi is a filthy city (even the loud radio on the public buses) but the people are beautiful and generous in hospitality.

Right before we flew away, I had a good long conversation with a man at our contact ministry’s guesthouse. He and his brother are now planting churches in home, and to my surprise, asking me many questions to teach them, even though they are well-educated and the one I talked to is a teacher at a large university or high school. We have four, going on five new church-planting leaders and two relationships with men who are already planting them in Nairobi.

I met several Americans on the return flight who were working with Christian ministries in Africa. One couple recommended two movies to me, that I recommend for those who love history and like to see God’s hand in history. “Amistad” and “Amazing Grace” both about African Slavery and the part of Christian influence in stopping some of the negative effects of slavery.

The day after my return and 6.5 hrs of sleeping like a rock, I packed and was blessed with a standard size rental car for the $99 for four day price of a compact car. They even knocked $20 off when I returned last Monday, because the 12 Volt outlet stopped working. After picking up my mail from my secretary in Michigan, I drove and slept in the back of the car, to arrive at a simple church conference, in Wisconsin, near Minneapolis, MN in time for the 2nd 9 am meeting July 23rd.

I ate my first meal, alone, cooking on a picnic table, but after that the Lord provided food and a different place to sleep each night. It was good to be reconnected to a number of people at my 3rd conference with them and to meet others. Amazingly although we had to keep our phones off, I got a service call during a break on Sunday that I did on Monday after sleeping from 5 am till noon. Although my service business is usually slow this time of year, I had service work or small sales income every weekday last week. I earned $710 on Monday and Tuesday. I haven’t cleaned my cluttered house, but I have set up communications and a plan for teaching our new partners in Kenya. & I could afford a $105 replacement cell phone (the screen was broken by the other guy) and some tools & supplies I need for my work.

I couldn’t get through to my wife for 6 days! But she is OK and very happy to hear my voice. She has been teaching from 150 people to just 3 and happy just like I am, in either case. I have been teaching by discussion (as we should) by telephone to our new Kenyan partners and happy to have a new motivation to write good basic teaching to email to them. Today I SMSed and called the brother of the one I met just before leaving. He is another mature leader ready to plant churches in houses with lots of questions. Actually he has one already begun. Fortunately he could understand my American English and we had a great conversation.

Pray for:

Wisdom for all of this training, partnering work with Kenyans

Wisdom and favor in my appeal of the last demand of the US Visa people for my wife’s visa

Humility and otherliness for me. The Lord blessed me with some critical feedback at the last conference. It is hard to not sound proud when the people you relate to most all want you to teach them, and when you know you have a lot of knowledge. “Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.”

More business sales, so I can catch up on my advertising and property taxes.

Sorry I forgot to get the good Kenya photos. We did see some giraffes as we bussed across country. I’m getting back in shape after the long fever & weakness (about 10 days) and ran into the neighbors that saw my ad for free firewood if they would clear the 3 trees that fell over my driveway. Strange to meet the people on foot that you found by running an ad from Africa.

Sunday, July 4, was great with about 17 network leaders meeting in & outside of a 5.5’ X 11’ room adjoining Bienvenu’s parents’ home. They represented 350-500 house churches that were part of the ones near Bujumbura. They don’t keep exact count to avoid pride. As should be among mature leaders it was much discussion, with a few short teaching/exhortations by myself and Bienvenu & shorter ones by others including Provi. I was really glad that she enjoyed it and heard the substantial discussion, at my request, about dealing with those who needed to improve their income, instead of looking for support from the outside, developed world, like me. I even learned from Bienvenu’s sharing, which was interpreted by another leaders. He shared how he decided he needed a way to support himself and prayed earnestly for ideas and opportunities. He was surprised how the doors had opened beyond his thoughts. He is truly a good example to others, which is the best way to teach others how to do something. I want to share the idea with the growing younger disciple, I have in the USA.

Great ministry news! I am so glad we traveled to Burundi! Our part of kingdom building has matured so much in Burundi! From talking and observing my closest Burundi partner, that we called our Burundi national director, in the past, it is clear to me that he and his senior leaders have matured so much in the way that any bond-slave of Jesus would be proud of. They have a clear understanding that they are kingdom-of-heaven builders, not “ministry” builders. They are all free to follow the King directly, but also function with a clear awareness of their mutual need for fellowship and relationships for encouragement, accountability, and even correction. Bienvenu said, “I work for no one but the Lord, and we claim no ministry name or titles. I am free to go wherever the Lord leads me with confidence the work will continue in Burundi with the leaders who remain.” His own personal lifestyle is a great example to others:

1. He has two evangelistic/simple church meetings each week that he started on the street sharing the gospel.

a. One is with homeless, former addicts, and criminals who meet on the beach. He baptized two new converts Monday (The first pictures).

b. The other is a group of homeless handicapped people in the city.

2. He has two leader ship meetings.

a. He meets with most of the Bujumbura metro area leaders of networks, weekly, who also have their own meetings with others. They represent approximately 400-800 churches. They don’t count exact numbers.

b. He has a monthly meeting with regional leaders (of the 5 of 17 Burundi provinces that they have reached).

3. He supports his family and ministry work with a rental car that God provided in answer to prayer for a way to support himself. His wife is finishing her accounting degree. His oldest daughter goes to a $30/mo. private primary school because the public schools are overcrowded and poorly staffed. When he asked his daughter, Jisca, where was she before she was born, she pointed to her head & said, “I was in the mind of God.”

4. Though he is very busy, he was very concerned for a young leader that we both know, who had abandoned his ministry leadership with no explanation and was friendly, with good promises, but no show at meetings of any sort. I was blessed at how much he sought my help with pursing this young man, who speaks English well. Bienvenu had called him for us and my wife had some long talks with him in our hotel room, because of what Bienvenu had expressed. He came with us to our second network leaders meeting and interpreted for me when Bienvenu & I were speaking. Together we made good progress with him, but please pray for more. He was, at one time one of our finest leaders.

5. Bienvenu’s personal decision is not to ask for help with any particular needs, but to see the Lord as the provider who uses people, most often. So there will be testimonies of God’s provision and work among them, but no requests. After the fact, appreciation should be expressed, so we saved up our donations, as I felt impressed to do, which bought him a long-life net-book computer and two external drives, but was loaded with files and software for him to use, at the expense of my business, by me paying my secretary to do that. I watched him use that with my favorite bible software for teaching in Burundi.

6. He wanted to talk to me personally about how I share his Burundi testimonies, so that no one who is giving to the work will think he is seeking double provision, but he surprised me by saying, although he functions as serving the King and not any ministry, he really wanted my input, and even correction, if I saw any need for it.

7. I am so glad we came to Burundi!

We were both more comfortable on our Burundi return, so we took a 2nd bus from the capital for a total of 11 hrs by bus and were about to arrive home when I typed this on the bus. We bought the lowest priced phone service credit, and called Mama, who cooked and brought food to our house for me. Why do I have so many Africans that love me so much? Provi says she will conquer me tonight, because she is jealous of Mama’s love for me. Mama always asks her about her “best son”, me, before she asks about her daughter, Provi.

Amazing Mama story: Provi’s sister, who is really a nieces of Mama, married a well-to-do Burundian man, who also really loves Mama. I told her he loved her so much, but she said,
“I have my son, Greg.” He said, “Who is Greg?” She said, “You will see him in the television or on the internet.” He said, “Here, I want to give you $500 to use for something you need like clothes.” She said nothing. He asked about Greg. She said, “He is very rich. He is like Jesus. He is Jesus! He is rich because he has the kingdom of God.” He said, “Will he come when Jesus comes?” She said, “Sorry, he is like Jesus.” I, Greg, don’t think I deserve that favor, but for me it is the fulfillment of “No one has given up houses or lands, or farms, or mother, or father, or sister or brother or children, for my sake and the kingdom, who will not receive a hundred times as much in this life and in the life to come, eternal.” That’s from memory, because my PDA with Bible software died. I have lost a lot, but I have parents, brothers, sisters, spiritual children, and grandchildren, and a wonderful wife in Africa.

Travel to Kenya: We are now, Mon, July 9, at the same hotel where Provi ate nearly a whole chicken. The Lord blessed us with $300 paid ahead for an ordered & shipped BlackBerry phone, so I didn’t have to take that much out of my account to pay for her $390 turned $420 round trip ticket on the same flight I travel on to Kenya. I learned the hard way (no refund) that if you use a Visa to take out $ they change it 3 times, Dollars-Francs-Euros-Dollars. So even though they told me their fee was 3.4%, 13.8% was taken out of my account plus of $17 for a non (my bank) ATM fee for $500 before our Burundi trip. Western Union would be cheaper! But next time I will take it out in RwFr, & change it myself to $ if I need to.

I was typing outside our hotel waiting for Provi to return from getting the luggage my Rwandan friend sent with another Rwandan from the USA. When she returned I suddenly got the chills (fever) and spent most of the time from 4pm to 6:17 am in bed, but I did eat. I still ache from the fever & sore throat, but after our 1 hr 15 minute flight to Nairobi, after getting money from a bank machine which costs less than otherwise, we will have a long night of rest in the home of a cousin of one of many Kenyans who recently found us through www.NewWaveMinistry.com.

Sun July 11: We are riding a nice mini-bus at the beginning of a 10 hr trip to Kisii Land from Nairobi after a good rest and excellent food at Lawrence’s cousin’s home. We are traveling at 50 mph. (80 kph) on a somewhat limited access divided highway that is similar, but in some places rougher than the USA interstate highways. The weather is nice and Provi and I are quite comfortable in the front seat next to the driver. Thank goodness we are not on Rwanda mountain roads that make me nauseated. Even though the flight from Rwanda was just 1 hr. 15 min. because of the long bus rides and walking from terminal to terminal in Nairobi, we spent 7 hrs traveling from Kigali to the home in Nairobi. We were tired and hungry, and I am thankful that I have more endurance than most people, because I had a fever and moderate head-ache the whole time. We had great sharing with Lawrence and Momanyi, who surprised me because they are both from Kisii Land. They paid their own travel expense to get us in Nairobi. I have only paid $25 for my 30 day visa, and small city bus fares, and bought two Kenya sim cards for our dual-sim card phones. & $30 for our tickets on a faster and more expensive bus than had been priced to me before.

Vacation from Expectations:

Kisii Land is a great vacation place. Either cool or breezy and warm & no city noise! & no pressing schedule! The weather was great for the 7 hr. bus ride, but the first 3 days were tiring, because I had a fever the first 4 nights (Friday in Kigali through Tuesday). We’ve had a wonderful time sharing, mostly by discussion, for both my wife & I. The best, as usual is the private conversations, as we walk or eat.

Provi’s hilarious dive into the fence-row:

I was going to town with our host, Lawrence, walking down a steep hill to the road. The last I saw Provi she was still sleeping. I heard someone say, “Hi!” So I looked and saw Provi diving headfirst into a fence row. She & all the rest of us laughed so hard! She was helping two other women to carry water up the hill, but she didn’t have the experience to balance it on her head. So she had looped a big cloth through the jug handle and around her forehead. What she didn’t know was that at the moment she said, “Hi.” she would have a misstep and the water jug would pull her sideways in the bushes. I wish I had a picture. I’ll never forget that.

Kisii trip concise & our travel Schedules:

1. We had a great time & want to go back for a longer trip.

2. We have at least two partners teamed up to make disciples by planting “simple churches”.

3. I was not well (cold, sore throat-expanded to my mouth) for 8 days, but I had a lot of endurance, and no pressing schedule.

4. My entire mouth was so sore I couldn’t chew hardly at all for 3 days & it was painful the rest of the time, but I filled up on bananas, boiled peanuts, and yogurt Sat. morning. I feel good and hungry today back at the cousin’s home in Nairobi after eating three times Saturday.

5. We visit house churches in Nairobi, Kenya, started by one of our used-to-be Gisenyi leader/friends Monday.

6. We both fly on different planes Tuesday night. I still remember walking and waiting with an aching fever on the 10th to pay the $200 schedule change fee. Mama will meet Provi at 6:15 their time Tuesday. I have a friend picking me up in South Bend, IN, 31 hrs later after 6:41 pm Wednesday. At that time I should have my 574 295 9696 phone, or at least the next morning.

7. I plan to drive to the Searching Together (near Minneapolis) conference the next day & travel the following two weekends.

8. Pray for my scramble for business income.

9. Provi has a friend named, My Friend (no kidding) who has arranged a conference of 150 people for her to teach next Saturday in our hometown, Gisenyi, Rwanda. She has funny stories about My Friend and her mother.

This trip has been different.

You can rejoice with me about a wide variety of things:

1. Provi is healthy, happy, and energetic to work with others in evangelism (the other day she went to 11 new homes in door to door evangelism, with the intention of planting new churches in the homes of new converts.

2. Our respected leader came on a 7 hr boat ride + 3-4 hrs to visit us from Bukavu, DRCongo. We had good fellowship and sent him with about 12 Swahili New Testaments, 1,000 Swahili Gospel tracts (given to me by a great ministry, World Missionary Press, {Click here} who are only 30 minutes from my US home) and, I think 3 books that I bought for him from the personal money that is given me by a relative. Provi really likes Haggai, so we gave him 220 lbs of potatoes (only $10) across the border in Goma, DRCongo, and about the same value in dried fish for which his family was very thankful.

3. I have gained two real good disciple/partners who speak English. One that I think will lead our Rwanda ministry when Provi finally gets her visa to spend time in the USA, with me. He’s sensible, mature, tired of traditional church, improving his own life, with bible school, English classes, and farming business plans. The other is young, but my hard-to-trust-someone-wife, asked him to come live in our house with her, when she comes back from our Kenya trip. Provi just said we should pray for him, because he is, perhaps opposed, in his family, as is common with serious believers, who don’t fit the family box.

4. Two people helped me find someone in government to approve the operations of our ministry, and with much persistence (I SMSed his phone & said I was willing to sleep in his office until he kept his promise to give us a government sealed letter, & we were coming) so we finally got the letter & I copied it for our leaders, just before we left on the bus , now, to the capital, for the first leg of our 5-6 day Burundi trip, HALLELUJA! I haven’t been to see my old friends where I started the ministry for 3 yrs, and none of them have met my wife.

5. I haven’t written much, because I’ve been finishing my first online university business course (4.0 GPA) and I had to redo my final paper, thank goodness, I was way ahead of the class schedule, because my computer had to be reformatted (a day of my time) and I lost all my new homework files, because not all the files copied that we though. But I’m thankful that due to my Pell grant and my parents, the 5 week course for 3 credit hours, will transfer to get me double business & history major required courses of 4 hrs for a university that charges more per hour for 8 week long online courses.

6. Because I’m not in the country, I got an email about my 2nd property tax appeal and because we are still in Rwanda where I have a good wireless connection, I replied from this bus almost right away. I’m sure my taxes will be reduced & I hope to get them all caught up this fall, though my wife cried for an hour when she realized that she probably wouldn’t get her visa interview on our trip to Kenya right after we return from Burundi next week. Pray that I will find out what is the real problem, because the visa center sent us the same letter saying our wedding certificate wasn’t valid and they wanted a police clearance, even though I sent them a 2nd wedding certificate and they received the police clearance.

7. After a great time in Rwanda together, we are spending the next 21 days, except for one plus 2+ days bus travel, in two other countries both of us sharing and teaching and learning as good teacher do. But I only have 1 or 2 days, after Burundi in Rwanda then after our 10 days in Kenya we will be parting in Nairobi. I return the 21st because I couldn’t change directly to Minneapolis for the nearby “Searching Together” conference of mostly radical house church people. It cost me $200 to change my ticket date, so maybe I’ll use a different airline next time.

Our funny hotel story and answer to prayer:

While I got money from my credit card, Provi searched for a low price hotel. Most of them wanted $34, but she found one for $17 which was quite nice for a low priced African hotel. She was very proud of it and said, “This is very nice!” It did have two bright wall lights and a working shower, sink, and toilet & to her surprise a phone for room service. She doesn’t know that a 7 X 11 ft room with a full size bed that I could swear was actually 7/8ths size, is nothing like a bargain hotel in the USA.

Here’s the funny part. They brought us a menu for food brought to us. She chose a whole chicken dinner that cost almost $14. I wanted to save money so she said she could take what she didn’t eat on the bus on our trip, where I’m typing now, so I bought a shis-ka-bob with fries for $4.25. Have you ever seen a child who suddenly had a big appetite when they got their favorite food? As my dad would say she was as happy as a pig in a pig-sty. She ate, and she ate, and she ate. She ate the whole chicken and fries/chips, except for the two legs and thighs, but she cleaned off the bones and even ate some of the bones from the one I ate. She even laughingly rebuked the demon of gluttony (a joke). When we were up at 6:30 she said, “I’m hungry!” and ate the remaining leg & thigh. At 8:30 on the bus she said, “I’m hungry!” It sounds to me like she’s pregnant with twins! But she’s not, because I think she was tested, because of a little stomach upset, but she had malaria. We had good malaria medicine, because I pestered her to get it in Goma, DRCongo, but I and the author of “Church in the House” who called us on Skype at 2am his time joined with his team of intercessors to pray for her and she ate that whole chicken 24 hrs after taking the first of 5 days of medicine. She’s happy and hungry now!

She said she weighs almost 18 lbs/8kg more than she normally weighs because she eats more when I am with her. On the bus yesterday, we bought (through the window) 6 shish-ka-bobs & two large ½ fried potatoes. That’s the first time I ever ate shish-ka-bob intestines. Fortunately I like almost everything. She told me she loves intestines and organ meat! My organic dairy farming friend is saving organ meat that the butcher normally throws away for my wife to cook when she finally gets to the USA. She will be as happy as a pig in a pig-sty & I will be happy because I know organic organ meat is very, very good for you & cheap for us. But I don’t think she get fat on that, if I can keep her away from sweets!

The hotel is hot in Bujumbura, Burundi, so taking a cold shower in our $16.30/night larger hotel room isn’t too bad, and the water only went down to a dribble for about 30 seconds this first morning. The bed is a true queen-size in a 13 X 14’ room, but the thin mattress is supported on 6 inch square patterns of 1 inch metal tubes and angle, with an occasional 2 inch wide tube by ¾” bump. But there’s enough room to move your hip off the bumps.

Bienvenu, brought us to the hotel in his own rental car business car that he is buying from his earnings renting the car. Now I know how he supports himself. He pays ministry friends to drive it, when he is not available. His older, 5? yrs. Daughter doesn’t cry when she sees me, but his baby, several months, does when she sees a white man. By being entrepreneurial he is mostly full time in making disciples and training leaders and has paid for his wife’s accounting degree progress and $30/mo for private school for his oldest daughter. The public schools are now free, but, as a result, the classes are too large and the pay to low for good teacher. I remember when we started the transportation business with my father’s gift and a big donation to buy a motorcycle from a US ministry friend. He said he sold a motorcycle to pay the deposit on the rental car from another friend of the ministry.

The bus trip here was quite miserable for me, because the short night, led to a head-ache, for which I forgot my head-ache medicine, which I rarely, but seriously need at times. But I was amazed that we bought 20 500mg aspirin tablets for 18 cents! It’s twice the Wal-Mart price in Rwanda. He said they make it locally. I ate a few bites at Bienvenu’s house, took my Aspirin and talked laying down on the couch. Except for waking up with no headache at 1:30 am and eating most of the remaining shish-ka-bob, I slept 12 hours (6-6) at the hotel and woke up feeling great and hungry.

Ministry news! Bienvenu personally evangelizes, starts “simple churches” and also trains groups of leaders to train groups of leaders. He has a group of converted ex-addicts, and criminals that he meets with on the public beach. I was with him today. They enjoyed my short interpreted teaching and proceeded to ask questions at my prompting. Since they sleep short hours on the streets where no one will arrest them if they are seen, they had questions about their difficulties. I talked about the laws of sowing, reaping, both to one-another, and to strangers and shared with them how my confidence in the faithfulness of God had given me resurrection experiences in my own experience of unfairness in life, even the friend who bailed me out of jail one time, after I had discipled him about 27 years earlier. Now I was blessed with a good wife who will support me to be the good father that I always wanted to be. We also talked about hearing God’s voice, etc.

My old Burundi friends, which Bienvenu called with the old numbers I gave him, are coming to visit us at our hotel. I gave him several numbers for them all. When we arrived he showed me the cheapest new mobile phone company, Smart, and this morning gave me all the working phone numbers. Two have come, and two more plus a fiancé and one with her son, I think, are coming later today, Saturday. My wife greatly enjoyed the first two visitors and now is napping while I type and wait for my old friend Chris and his fiancé, after all these years (he’s about 40).

Sunday, we will be sharing with about 20 leaders of house church networks (100-200) house churches from the capital, area. I expect a great experience. I think most of them understand Swahili, which my wife speaks, best, but she can speak Kirundi, too if she will. Bienvenue can interpret for both of us.

Camera problems & 3 pictures for visiting a friends dairy farm in Indiana & my home-made bread. And we are very happy together. After finding out that I could get lower-priced internet service from the new (very low cost) cell phone company, in our home town we got on a full bus for the 3.5 hr bus ride to our home town from the capital. We were so happy to be close. I was happy just to look at her face! After a 42 hr. trip, with all sleep times under 3 hrs at a stretch, I was so tired that I arranged my flexible self, in a row of 5 people, to lay my head on her lap and we talked with my eyes closed much of the time.

Saturday was mostly rest and togetherness, except for a trip to town to start my wireless internet service and do email work.

Sunday, Provi interpreted for me at Mama Anny’s gathering of house churches (sort’ve like a traditional house church planting house churches, but in reverse, because they started with house churches who wanted to meet together, because Anny is such a mature gifted leader.) So Provi did really well interpreting and they were all very happy. Provi said, “That was God!” because she said she doesn’t even like to preach in Kinyarwanda, because she’s better with Swahili or French. A group of men gathered afterwards to plan how I could teach them simple church concepts better. Now she is off to pray for a sick person while I write & organize my luggage.

Tuesday, was the first more normal day, as she went with her Tuesday evangelistic/church planting team, & I went to town for most of the day to try to get better internet service. From what the Canadian man told me, it will be fast enough to make $26/yr Skype calls, which now work with my blue-tooth head-set, so I can walk away from the computer when I make a Skype to phone call. Even though we had a short difference over which cell phone to use (preference vs using the dual sim card phone to save money) we were so happy to just be together and she did use her new Tigo wireless number to call mine for under 2 cents/minute, even though I put it in a phone that is not her favorite.

Today I am meeting with the faculty at a university in our Rwanda home town about starting to teach for them. I hope to find out when & what course to prepare teaching for.

A great testimony from Haggai in Bukavu (bolded by me, for your reading):

Hello brother Greg & mama, Provi!
Just an opportunity to share with you a testimony of one of our
fervent leaders. Her name is Florida. She was forsaken by her husband
almost 5 years ago. She cares for 7 kids. Her husband went to Goma and
took another wife. The burden is too heavy for FLORIDA.
To cut this long story short, on Monday, May 31st, we
held our House Church prayer meeting from 9a.m to 1 p.m. She presented
her request to the Lord. She said she paid all her capital for her
children’s school fees. She had nothing left. She had phoned her
husband but he couldn’t solve the matter. She joyfully poured out her
spirit to the Lord. She said, ‘Jesus, my faithful husband, you know
the needs of your children’( Most of the time the prayer that brings
forth a quick solution is made up of simple words and is somewhat
short). The next day she received a phone call from an elder brother
of her husband, living in the US, who hadn’t cared for plight at all.
He told her that he sent some money to the enlarged family and her
share was 60 dollars. Two days later her own brother ( who never
thought about her because her husband hadn’t paid any wedding present
to their family) sold a family piece of land and sent her 50 dollars.
She now has enough money for small business, cross border activities.
She said she enjoys God’s provision for her family and above all the
joy and comfort which she gets when and after we gather in our House
Church. She told us that she believes that Jesus Christ always gathers
with us and He has healed her internal wounds.
I’m happy that our people love and cling to Christ deeply.
Even most of our members with low education level can at least say a
word about the most important Bible doctrine. One night we watched one
of the DVDs on how the ministry is conducted in the US and they were
blessed by the fact that Church members share not only the word of God
but also food and drinks.
Please ask mama to tell us some of their testimonies in Gisenyi.
Much love,
Haggai K.

My 42 hr journey thoughts: How God has blessed!

Even though waiting so long was not my desire, I can clearly see God’s wisdom and great grace toward us, by this long 7 month parting between my wife, Provi, and I. I also can easily see that God has used this time in so many ways for progress for our future, which is really the future of the kingdom of God in the realm of our influence.

Major steps of progress:

1. My young, 25 years, wife has gotten substantially more solid in her commitment to our relationship and her confidence toward God’s faithfulness to fulfill His promises to us. The promises:

a. God will provide for the cost at the right time for safe travel to be together. 7 months is a long time, but our financial condition is better than it has been for me since I lost my business to a cocaine addict in 05 during my 2nd Africa trip.

b. She will get her US immigrant visa. Not yet, but because my trip was delayed I was here to communicate by phone with the US National Visa Center, & the new immigration counselor (the fourth one, since late 07) to make sure the next step was taken. Yesterday they got the approval from me to send in the 2nd original wedding certificate & the DRCongo police clearance, because they rejected the certificate from DRC, but should accept the one I had with me from Rwanda and they never got the police clearance.

c. God will give us children, but at the right time. Although, for me and my wife having children together is a great mutual desire, she has peace that they will come in abundance at the right time & I am thankful that she wasn’t pregnant during the total of 21 months out of 31 that we have been apart. That would be very hard for a young woman, who is still learning her husband’s language, and has never had an experience with a culture even similar to our developed nation culture. We will have children at the right time.

d. God will give us a marriage that demonstrates the passionate love of Jesus for his bride and her passionate response. Though neither of us is perfect, God has given me grace to demonstrate God’s patience and faithfulness, and her to walk in devotion to her husband, even when she has not seen him for a long time.

2. Our personal finances are much improved:

a. After the downward slide of losing 3 out of 4 of my vans in recent years, to two fires and one trashed engine, I was able to buy an old, but very nice Volvo, with enough money to get it running like new and improving the condition of my one remaining van. I’ve used the Volvo to save on fuel for my work, but it will be a great car for my wife, when she is here & has a driving license, because it has working heated seats, 2 defrosters, power everything, and is rated one of the safest vehicles in collisions, because it has an oversize frame, which protects the occupants.

b. I could afford to add an almost complete 2nd story porch & the front of the house is all repaired, except for the need for siding under the new porch roof. The porch will greatly increase the value of our pole-barn, converted to a house in a property that has tripled in value even with no buildings! My neighbors over-size log cabin house sold for over $300,000, but I managed to get my appraised value down around $100,000 by appealing the tax assessment, based on it being unfinished and wind damaged. Our house in 3.4 acres of woods will be a great place to have a passel of children!

c. I had enough money to buy 6 computers (3 have buyers waiting for good profit) to take in my luggage with me and two of them are coming for free in the luggage of another traveler to Rwanda! I managed to fit 41 lbs of Swahili tracts and New Testaments and four new computers in my two 50 lb. checked luggage & my exceptionally heavy carry-on, not to mention 4 lbs of cheese, 3 lbs of spices, and 3 lbs of ingredients for my favorite Syrian Lentil recipe. My box weighed 49.9 lbs of the 50 allowed!

d. We also have 3 computers in Tanzania waiting for buyers to support our Tanzanian partner, because I could invest in two.

3. My online university education is amazing:

a. After discovering I can test out of many courses very quickly, (I have about 60 hrs by testing so far) my good old friend found me a university where I can get a degree on-line in my favorite subject with a double major in a useful subject (history & business Admin.) and they will allow me to test out of 24 hrs in one major & 8 in the other, so I can get the double major by taking enough upper level course to get a single major degree.

b. And the good school has already told me by email that I can take 3 3 hr. business courses for my 2nd major at a Christian University for a lower price and they will transfer to 12 hrs of my 48 hr. business major!

c. I’m surprised that I’m really enjoying my first business management course, which I will finish from Rwanda. My textbook is a little heavy in my back-pack.

d. From Washington, DC, right before flying to Africa via Rome, I finally talked to someone who will find out if my current university can buy a text-book that I can download for my next class, just in case I can stay in Africa when that class starts. Becky will email the answer to me.

e. I just finished 3 of the 5 activities for my 3rd of 5 weeks of business classes on the 3rd to Rome leg to Kigali Rwanda of 6 different flights, but only 3 off-plane layovers, not counting sitting in the plane in Rome, Italy and Entebbe, Uganda.

4. My new large yellow-pages add is bringing in a lot of calls and I had enough income from that to pay $700 of around $3,000 of over-due property taxes and I paid the first two of 12 of those yellow pages bills which combined my old past due balance with a great price for a larger ad, that is more bold about how I use it to support making disciples of Jesus.

5. I have about three customers that said they will wait for my return to put in new furnaces & Air-conditioners.

6. My communications expenses have dropped substantially, since I ported my most-called business number to my unlimited voice, text, & internet $45/mo StraightTalk phone and it’s much simpler to only use one phone with a long-life battery than the broad-band I used before when I was home. My other two business lines only cost me $15/mo, since I don’t need to use the call-out function of my broadband phone lines.

So if you want to call me, for now call my primary business # 574 295 9696, which is also my cell for SMS messages.

God has really been blessing our marriage relationship, but Provi has been upset, because I was surprised that she has already spent the $800 she got by recently selling a computer for a very good profit. She is slowly learning that I always tell her the truth, but you have to understand that in African culture, even good pastors just tell people what sounds good with little concern that is will actually happen. & her family lied to her about who her mother was, so she never had anyone who always told her the truth. So she thinks I’m angry about the money & she just told me, “My life is coming (becoming) difficult.” She knows I tell her the truth, but sometimes she doesn’t believe it for a while & I am not upset. Pray for wisdom & favor for me and our cousin, Smith, who she trusts and is sending me an accounting of her spending & will reassure her that I have no problem with her spending. I think he is always honest, but when they were young he spoke what he had been told to her, which may have been a lie. But she trusts him & her mother.

Thank you for being a group of friends who pray for me/us and who are always welcome to call us both. You all can also call Provi at 312 379 0447. She is very happy when any of my friends call her! Sometimes she is so happy she says, “I will sleep with my shoes on!”

The health idea is at the bottom

A letter from a brother who is spreading our teaching in DRCongo:

Morning.

We are doing well in the Lord, I’ve been sharing the teachings you sends to me with a huge numbers of people, we shared the love of Jesus and wanted to know more about Greg and how God inspired him to get a lot of wisdom about this teaching of Song, of Solomon.

In Masisi, where i did two weeks I passed house by house to share this wonders you know that ‘s in masisi where the land of war in north-kivu.

But thank God for what he did,

Many people have been interested by reading even took copy of the teaching.

May God bless you, i need more wisdom and teaching from you.

Euclide.

April 8 letter from Haggai in a different part of DRCongo:

Jambo ndugu L.K Mapenzi, (Hello brother, Weeps with Love {me})

Nafurahi (I am happy) that mama (Provi) spoke to Pastor Igunzi and his wife before they’d left. They told her that they need some Swahili Bibles because they lost theirs during when they were displaced owing to the last military operation, called “pressure on the Interahamwe”, carried out by the Congo and UN Forces. This brother told me they lost everything except salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ. They are now rebuilding their living. Mama, Provi, told them to keep praying and time will tell. I added that God knows their needs and no human being can supply all their needs. We’re rather limited. Only our heavenly Father can. The couple was very excited to hear mama’s encouragement. They told me that she must be a mature leader and I confirmed telling them that she’s my House Church trainer. They said they’ll manage to come again once you come to Bukavu for a seminar.

They have gone to town. We’ve had a great time with them. I’ll go to say bye to them tomorrow.

Mchana njema, ndugu yangu. (day nice, brother, my).

Haggai K. M. Baba Greg (He named his baby Greg, so he is Baba or Daddy Greg) I just figured that out. LOL.

Bukavu New Wave Ministry World Missionary Press has set aside 60 Swahii New Testaments and 500 each of two Congo Swahili scripture based evangelistic tracts at no charge for me to take on my next trip. HeavensFamily.org is shipping 25 of the great “The Disciple-Making Minister to Goma, near our home that we can use in Gisenyi and Bukavu where this letter came from. I have known and supported WMPress.org for about 30 years. I am thankful that I have so many resources for needs for scripture material in other languages. Now, just pray that God will bless my business to pay for my travel at the right time.

Robert Fitts, is contributing a significant amount in 6 monthly payments, to bless David Saku for translating the edited (by me) version of “Church in The House” to Swahili. HeavensFamily.org has found a good printer in nearby Burundi, through my Burundi partner, that may help Robert to get his book printed in an area near where there will be a good demand in our ministry. Provi likes his book so much that she carries his book in English, like she carries her bibles!

God blesses me even in troubles! I got a discouraging statement from a daughter who has been deceived by someone else (she said, I was crazy) but she is out of my reach due to the lies and money for attorneys of her step-father.

A little later I listened to Provi encourage me for 53 minutes that she wanted our future children to love me, & that she was in the kingdom, because of me, & God did miracles to give us life together & many other good words. She even told me about the fiancé she had shortly before I met her, who said, “I can’t be your fiancé.” the day after she asked God, “Only give me a husband who will help me in ministry.” Then she told me, “He was a well-to-do doctor, but I don’t care if we have nothing, if we have the kingdom of God we have everything! I’m not easily disturbed, but that was memorable encouragement from Provi!

The morning after that conversation (April 18) I got up to or surpassed my condition before my shoulder was dislocated last April 24 in our Tanzania rolled bus accident, & stood on my hands & lifted myself up & down to 3.5 inches from the floor two sets of 20 reps. I will be strong to help my wife with our children for another 30 or 40 years it seems. As my friend Bruce said, after I told him these two stories, WOW!

Below the numbers correspond to the days in April when they happened:

Today Provi told me that several people (I counted at least four) she had prayed for at a traditional church were all healed with testimonies the next week. Another man said that the house of Provi and Greg was like paradise and he wanted prayer that his house would be like ours. My wife offered him my phone number, but he said (LOL) “I have a devil! I don’t know English!” I have two service calls today. Just in the nick of time to pay Grace and keep my old phone service on, for Dave and my 2 old friends for 4 more weeks. Dave pays me and one of my friends searched the internet and found me a university where I can test out of the major courses for both business and history for a double-major. I can test out several of the business courses, which is good, because my teaching interest is history.

This is a good one! Because of my patience with an erring brother & my wife’s “discernment” of who to be friends with, she listed my and her gifts from God. She said mine were wisdom, teaching, and patience! She said hers were singing, discernment, teaching, helps, and mercy. She said, “Patience…me, No!” Because her discernment is perhaps, sometimes too unwilling to trust, she only has two friends near her. Her mama, and mama Annie, who is also her mother’s age. But she does trust her cousin Smith, who is my best Rwanda friend, and some of her other relatives. Mama Annie said to her, “You have so many gifts! But patience, no!” My wife said, “That’s why God gave me my husband. He has patience and wisdom.” So even though she was angry because I accept too many people as friends, she agreed that God gave us what we lacked in the other. He gave us unity and understanding in teaching, and balance for our weaknesses in other areas. The pastor of the traditional church who supports us and asked her to co-pastor it said, “Why are people afraid of you, although you are much younger than me?” Provi is highly respected even by men who are twice her age, but most people fear to cross her. Not me! I can make her mad with the truth and win her back with patience and love. Teaching is both a gift and grows from knowledge and wisdom, but patience just comes the hard way. So I will help her grow in patience and wisdom and she will help me grow in discernment, especially, and balance me in all of them, especially mercy.

Friday, I took a difficult Humanities test. I called Provi to ask for prayer that I would pass. It was worth 6 hrs of college credit at my current online school, and 8 hrs at my next one where I can get a double major in business and History, by testing out of about 24 hours of my major course requirements. This & the previous tests will be worth about 60 + hours at this school which allows me to test or transfer out of 104 hours out of 128. The best part is I passed by just 3 points & when I woke up Provi to tell her, she told me that our Catholic Mama had prayed about my exam with Pentecostal passion for me to pass and was very happy! She told me that her life and our good marriage were transforming three of our relatives into real serious Christians!

I installed a furnace (that I strapped on top of my tools in the trunk of my {cheaper to run} car) in a crawl space for 10 hrs of work after 2 hrs of cashing checks & getting materials. It was another African American Christian customer. They seem to be the ones with money (& who pay me the balance with postdated checks for my own form of credit). Thank God I finally earned some decent money!

Great evangelism and discipleship testimonies! My wife is working with 3 or four house churches that network with Mama Annie to fast, pray, and go door to door with the gospel. She prayed a long time for a Muslim man and wife who said, “Your God is good. Allah is not! I have peace now!” She prophesied after praying for his estranged brother that he would come to day to visit. He did, and from what I understand they were reconciled and all three of them said that Jesus is better than Mohammed! They are continuing to pray and go door to door Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, this week. She also told me the she prays & helps our house girl grow daily. She is like a mother to her. She hasn’t been to school, but she reads a Kinyarwanda bible and explains it very well to Provi. They go to meetings together.

Funny relative stories: My wife is amazed at how our family, including Christians love me so much! Our almost 3 yr old niece, Laurianna, likes to watch the Christian movies and teaching DVDs that I have sent to Provi. Laurianna named the TV an English name; It’s name is “Thank you Greg”! LOL! When Provi is with her relatives and I call her, if they know it’s me, they all say, I want to talk to my husband! Mama, Laurianna, Grandma, & even Uncle Simon, all call me their husband! Grandma only speaks Kinyarwanda, but if she hears my Provi speaking English, she says, “That is Greg. I want to talk to him.” But when I call my wife says, “It’s someone else, and she goes outside to talk to me, in private.” Ah well, we all have our weaknesses! As usual something happened on the 22nd of the month, that is significant to me. In the evening, I decided to withdraw from my early American History class, for three reasons. It will not transfer to meet my history major requirements or the 48 hrs of upper level credit for my double major history/business degree at a different school. I can test out of Early American History (worth 4 jr level credits) at my final school.. I can read the whole text book in a few days and meet my goal of learning American History from a Christian perspective & learn what I need to pass the test & get a full refund for the tuition and book, because the 22nd was the first day of my online class. Of course I will save a lot of time of doing difficult reports.

I sold a big job today and my wife had good news, too. I spent most of the day selling by text messages and email. That was a first! But customers are changing and I am too. My Straight Talk phone has a slide out keyboard and unlimited US text, so it worked well with my young phone “thumber”. Provi told me that she was still late on rent, because she spent the $200 her uncle sent on other things she was behind on, like utilities & food, but she just got paid $800 for a computer she has had to sell since October! So now she can pay two months rent ($300) and won’t need any more money until after I arrive, in May, I expect.

Now I can send my good news! I have a $2,700 deposit on a big job, have withdrawn from my current online class and got the materials ordered for delivery to the job just before my supplier closes at 5. I’m expecting at least one more big job soon (pray for too-busy-to-go-to-the-bank, Madeline) who has good credit for a $5,500 job. I also got two big gifts from a relative and just stocked up materials on sale for my summer business, bargain tools, and the groceries I keep stocked. I only lack a gallon of honey.

Health invention (sort’ve):

You know good inventions are usually preceded by trials that fail. But I didn’t have to find 1,000 ways not to make a light bulb like Thomas Edison. I wanted to make my own soft, healthy margarine from healthy butter and oils. I first tried blending butter with safflower oil, but I learned it isn’t really very good for you and it melted at summer indoor temperatures, but it showed me that it looked great and tasted fine. Then I tried blending butter and olive oil. That was a flop. It didn’t mix well, look good, or hold up in room temperature. After I learned that even the AMA says that saturated fats are no longer villains and the real criminals are trans-fats, which appear when you heat olive oil, I made an accidental or providential discovery of something that works very well! I searched for cheap cooking oils that are low in unsaturated fats, because they produce few trans-fats when heated. I found a 50 lb “cube” of palm oil at Gordon Food Services (www.gfs.com) which only cost me $40 to order. I thought it was a square jug, because it was called palm oil, but it was literally a “cube” of solid, but soft, palm shortening. It really is great cooking oil (after it melts). After I finished my butter-olive oil disaster, I decided to melt the palm oil, soften some butter & blend them half & half. It’s wonderful. It looks almost like whipped butter, but it doesn’t melt at room temperature & tastes mostly like butter. So now I can blend it with organic butter at $4.50/lb to produce something healthy that spreads easily, but doesn’t run away at room temperature and only costs $2.65/lb since the palm shortening is less than a dollar/lb. Now I need to find an easy way to have my own cow!

First, I am starting to get books to take with me to Africa. We need used or new English bibles! You can send them to the address at the bottom. We did get 20 new English bibles last year sent all the way to Africa, but this will save you shipping cost. Any small donations (see end of email) will be used to buy good Christian books that I know are useful to my leaders, because I’ve gotten reimbursed for the computer & DVD expenses I covered from my business account. Books to take are next, or another DVD projector if we get a big donations (= to $300).

Last Sunday I had a great conversation with Bienvenu in Burundi & a great email from Haggai in Bukavu, DRC. Because God has blessed Bien & I so much through our friendship, I have started calling him every morning while I’m still in bed after I call my wife. But I only get through once or twice each week. This is what Bienvenu said that made me happy:

He is personally putting his good teaching in the computer, that saved up small donations paid for (my decision) so he can email teachings that will bless our ministry in every country. He is delighted to have that small netbook resource for his teaching travels.

They (a few Burundi house churches he is close to) are working to save & pray for money for a conference to teach pastors (who are often tired of the non-effective big church system) in a new area of Burundi, so we can have leaders to reach more hungry people with the effective disciple-making strategies (simple/home church). He is the right man to lead that. He is much better with traditional leaders than I, although all my good leaders were leaders in the traditional church system when I met them It only took a few hundred dollars for a Burundi conference the last time to get 51 pastors to change their methods even if they should be chased out of their denominations!

He is leading his 2nd group of 15 leaders in small group training, because his first group is all now training 15 leaders each! We are not only multiplying disciples, but we are multiplying well grounded leaders in Burundi! If any of you wants to call him, I’ll tell you how you can do it at my expense or cheap at your expense.

Haggai wrote this with my added comments in blue & bolding by me:

Hi brother Greg,

I’m very happy to hear from you and get the glad tidings from brother David in Tanzania.

In fact, the evangelism strategy that works there (in Tanzania) (using the Jesus video with our projector and speakers) can effectively work all over Sub-Saharan Africa though, some of our cultural aspects may differ a little bit. If we had those tools (video projector, amplifier,…), we would do a greater job for the Lord. Our people are more attracted by pictures in motion and sounds. I recently attended a seminar on evangelism through films hosted by the Emmaus Bible Correspondence School Bukavu Center. They gave us a syllabus on how to get the gospel across through movies. They said they are gonna implement and spread the project all over the province little by little. It’s great!

Our vision is good. We’re still see the mighty Hand of God. Our members who were coveted by the prophetess found no interest in her ministry and so decided to come back. Thanks for your prayers! Another good news is that most of our members have started doing some small-scale business. They are taking credits from local cooperatives and savings banks and pay them back little by little with a some interest rate. Haggai has done what our other leaders have not done, to my knowledge, in convincing his members that they can prosper by starting businesses, instead of waiting for hand-outs, as is common in Africa.

The other Bukavu House Church still prospers. I’ve had a phone call from a Pastor of our traditional church in Mwenga, 200 kilometers recently. He told me that he has planted a House Church in his locality. He’ll send me a photo when he gets the opportunity.

Are you coming back to Africa soon? How is mama Provi? I haven’t heard from her for a long time since I hardly ever get MTN (his Rwanda wireless provider) credits. How is Pastor Samuel? An Indiana pastor he talked to when I visited their Kenyan church.

Greetings to all our brothers and sisters.

Luv from,

Haggai Kongolo M.

I tried not to give you a daily journal, because I know you are busy, but some things I just have to share. So I’ll share my largest joys and greatest troubles by the day they happen in March:

18) My wife had malaria, but she was at Mama’s house in good care and felt well enough to listen to me and to pray in English for our relationship and tell me that she was totally committed to me. Her cousin Benjamin was across the border buying malaria medicine where you don’t need to wait for a test and prescription.

19) Big day! She was already almost well (because she learned to take medicine right away without waiting for tests, from me) and she had eaten a good meal! She sometimes doesn’t eat when she misses me, but she eats better at Mama’s house. After doing unusual exercises nearly as well as before my dislocated shoulder, rolled bus, accident last April & listening to good web-stream teaching, I hurried to take & pass a test for 3 hrs of college credit with no extra study! My supportive relative said they would pay for any expenses I have for the test “bone-up” courses and test fees, so I expect to test out of 18 more hours for my Bachelors of History degree. Then I traveled nearby to do a bid for another African-American lady & had great fellowship with her and expect to replace their Central Air in 2.5 weeks. I was happy to get my trike running well with the new gearing so I can keep up and pedal with the engine and installed a new flashing light in back and a 2nd flashing headlight on the front to help me see better with lights in my eyes to be safe at night.

20) My wife was very happy, because she was with Mama Annie (one of our most mature and prophetically gifted leaders) and a very gifted man, who did not know me, prophesied to my wife like this, “You have a very good and very gifted husband! You are very blessed!” Provi told me and prayed, “You don’t have to be afraid. I know God gave you to me. I am waiting for you. I will love you forever and will always be yours! I can wait patiently for you.” We have friends in Rwanda and DRCongo, who love my wife and I so much! I told my wife she was blessed to have so many mamas who treat her so well, and a husband who loves her like a husband and a father & that I was blessed to have so many friends in Africa, and she was blessed to have so many who love her & pray for her in America! Bienvenu, in Burundi was very happy when I called him, so he shared his version of trials with a recently ill wife & currently ill youngest daughter (a few months old) until the phone disconnected.

25) My 10.7 yr old daughter replied to my email of our wedding photos and said, “my new mom looks great.” She was referring to Provi. That surprised me! Her mother died in 05.

26) I just took my third college credit test and in 7 days & got 11 hrs of credit in that time! I’ll only get 8 hrs at one school and 5 at another, because I had ½ of my 6 hr English Comp. test credit already.

27) Today I had two great phone conversations with two (of course) black people. My wife and I had such a great conversation talking about how we loved our fathers so much and how we played with a younger sibling and our friends were often the opposite sex. Then I talked to a “chat” online University advisor a long time about our ministry and marriage testimony. I guessed correctly that he was African American and he gave me his personal email address. He laughed when I told him I was an American African (an African who came from America). I got my 3 mile time below 30 minutes by running the painful sprints longer. I suppose it should, since my sprint stride is 5.5’. 5 150 stride sprints only leave about a half of a mile of walking to catch my breath. Today I did most of my most difficult online school assignment.

28) The day I got great reports from Burundi & DRCongo, that you saw above.

29) A day of reconciliation. A brother stopped at my house for the purpose of making right the misunderstanding that had caused the loss of a good ministry leader in Africa. I knew there was a good explanation, but he was most humble and apologetic, even though I felt he did nothing wrong. Then God arranged for my motor-assisted trike to break down when I was headed toward an old friend’s house who is good at almost everything including all kinds of engine repairs. He was actually home when I called (rare lately, because of his business) and when he stopped cooking to call me back, I was pedaling into his driveway! Another friend told me that there was an issue he & I needed to talk about. God arranged a time that was good for him to talk outside in the sun and we got that all straightened out and my trike engine started working, even though he didn’t think he had found the problem. I went on my way to a service call, using my trike.

30) I passed two exams for 6 hrs college credit in three hours today & had a paying service call afterwards!

31) Amazing story from my wife and cousin! She had another pastor come to her to try to steal her from me, but she is too in love with me to be at all enticed. This one didn’t come to get her for someone else. He wanted her himself. He said, “You are so beautiful. Your husband doesn’t care about you. You have no car, you don’t have a house. I will give you a house and a car. Provi was angry and said, “My husband takes care of all of my needs and he loves me so much and I love him so much! He has many cars.” Well, that was for his ears. But I am rich. Rich with knowledge, health, patience, discipline, and the know-how to keep my vehicles running at very low cost. & I do have 5 old trailers, a motor-home that doesn’t run, a 22 yr. old car and a 17 yr old van that both run well. And my house is much nicer than 99% of the houses in Africa. The funny part is that the pastor did not know the lady he ran into was her mother, who loves me too. He said something to her and she said to the pastor, “You are a dog!” Our cousin (whose English is excellent) was with her, so we talked about his request that I sell my house here, so we could buy a house in Africa (I can’t do that, because of old tax liens) because she just wants to be with me. I told him I believe the Lord would provide so that we could build a house in Africa. When he told her, he laughingly told me, “She is dancing all around.” She will be very happy to be with me anywhere, according to our cousin, Smith!

Thursday, I got my 3 mile time down to 28 minutes and 8 seconds! The warm sunny weather helps me push harder.

Yesterday, I passed my 6th exam for college credit in 14 days. 21 hrs worth, but 18 for me. I actually had a bid near the exam site, which, I think will give me some work in the next week or so. It’s hard to sell heating or cooling jobs in nice weather.

Pray for:

I recently heard from a ministry with a history of accurate prophecies about future events that the 12 cities promised a visitation of the Lord in the USA have begun. Three different men got revelations that treated Ohio like one of the cities and they believe that God will move in that entire state But for you guys they listed:

Redmond, CA (did I spell it right?)

Denver

Many cities in the “Heartland”, like Nebraska and Iowa

Cities in Oregon and Washington

I don’t remember them all, but there were Kansas City, Nashville, Charlotte, and somewhere in FL included.

They said the Awakening is not limited to these areas, but these will be “centers”

I personally believe this revelation that was given to Rick Joyner in the 80s has begun to come to pass, though none of these men is perfect, but I like that they are very honest about what they don’t understand.

I can send you a link if you want see the session where I heard this.

I just got two invites to Kenya which has also been prophesied back in 06-7.
